For our latest instalment of 60 Second Instagram interviews, we’re shining the spotlight on two members of our dedicated team: Ava, our Interior Designer, and Calum, Assistant in the Workshop.
Their journey to the team is a particularly lovely one. Having both spent time in Australia, joining the Skye Candles team became the unexpected and rather exciting reason for them to make the move back to Scotland. And we’re very glad they did!
This time, rather than simply answering questions about themselves, Ava and Calum turned the tables and answered each other’s questions. How well do they know one another? As it turns out, very well, as they both managed to get both their favourite and least favourite aspects of the job spot on!

For Calum, the answer was all about the labels. He has something of a love-hate relationship with them. There’s no denying that applying a label can be incredibly satisfying. It’s the final little detail, the finishing touch that helps complete an already beautiful product. But not every label is quite so straightforward. Some can be particularly fiddly and, as Calum admits, rather tedious. So while he appreciates the finished result, getting there isn’t always his favourite part of the day!

For Ava, it’s the creativity that makes her job so enjoyable. She loves working on new projects, developing ideas and, perhaps best of all, re-designing and transforming new spaces. Every new project brings a fresh opportunity to think creatively and create something completely different. Her least favourite part? Chasing suppliers, an all-too-familiar part of the interior design world and perhaps not quite as exciting as bringing a new space to life!
Of course, we couldn’t finish without finding out about their favourite fragrances. Ava’s pick is Machair Flowers, a beautifully evocative scent inspired by the wild landscapes of Scotland. Calum, meanwhile, has a sweeter favourite: Pimento & Cranberry, a wonderfully fruity and warming choice.

It’s always a pleasure getting to know the people behind the products a little better, and Ava and Calum’s 60 Seconds gives us a lovely glimpse into the personalities, passions and even the little frustrations that make up everyday life within our team.
And if their answers are anything to go by, they know each other pretty well too!
