WHO WE ARE

AND WHAT WE STAND FOR

OUR MISSION

Our motivation is to offer quality. The research of the scents, the sourcing of the fragrances, and the creation of our products. It is all done in the pursuit of giving our customers the best.

This became our mission. Throughout our development, this theme as remained at the very core of our thinking. Only now, quality thinking extends further to our design process, our customer service, and critically, satisfying our customers needs.

We proudly create unique home fragrance products, using 100% renewable soya wax and the finest quality natural oils. This is who we are.

We are equally proud of the positive way we interact with our customers and our team alike. This links us firmly in our local community but also allows us to recreate a community worldwide.

...

OUR STORY

Isle of Skye Candle Co. was born out of love for Skye and the Highlands, passion for natural products and hand craftsmanship, James' entrepreneurial spirit and the support of his family and the local community. This mix has remained unchanged throughout the journey, still is the key drive for our company today and for our plans for the future.

It was in May 2006 when James, with the help of his uncle and cousin, decided to renovate and old bothy into what turned out to be Skye Candles first ever production workshop. From here, with the help of his older brother Raghnall, James formed the business as it stands today - the Isle of Skye Candle Company.

James used the skills of mixing scents and essential oils, that he developed working in the soap shop in Portree and officially began the product development, process that he is still hands-on involved in today as we continue to grow our range.

Initially, the candles were only sold in one shop in the island, but the curiosity about and demand for the natural products have grown rather quickly. While there are quite a few companies specialising in natural candles and making products using sustainable ingredients, back then we were kind of pioneers.

And with the growing demand, the Skye Candles team has begun to grew too. Although we remained a family run business at core, we hired our first employee in 2009 and only continued growing since. Not long after that, we also moved our production to a new unit in Broadford, which was a more spacious facility and enabled more of our lovely customers to enjoy our products.

Fast forward a couple more year, to 2014, we've opened our first mainland shop in the city centre of Edinburgh, followed by opening a shop in Inverness, St Andrews, and Glasgow, all in the space of just 18 months!

Along the way, our products have gone through a transition and development too. The candles we make today look very different from the creations James made in the bothy in Braes. We've gone through a brand refresh of our signature range in 2018 and our Scottish collection design got a design makeover just this year. Even though the products look different these days , they are still the same at heart - soya wax, high quality wicks, natural fragrances, and craftsmanship of people who genuinely care.

OUR ISLAND-OUR INSPIRATION

It is quite evident that Skye leaves a mark on everything we create.

Our beautiful island is an endless source of inspiration for everything we do.

It is where James started the company back in 2006 and will always be our home.

Firstly, a little bit about Skye - the island is situated on the north west coast of Scotland. For generations, powerful natural forces have shaped this landscape giving us some of the most dramatic mountains and coastlines in the world. Really, no other place on Earth pars with Skye for the amount of scenic views. There have been rumours that New Zealand comes close, but we don’t buy it. Every direction you look you'll always see an Instagram perfect image, which we definitely testify to on our page.

More than what meets the eye

Really the island is a treat for all the sense, with beautiful fragrances all around.

Although situated at 57 degrees North, Skye is privileged to enjoy mild weather for most of the year thanks to the warm air off the gulf stream. This in turn helps plant life to thrive and gives us all the inspiration we need for our amazing natural fragrances.

People make the place

Skye really is what differentiates us from everyone else. And although we wouldn’t trade the views and the smells for anything in the world, the list goes far further than that. People and the community can truly make a place special. And anyone who’s ever been to the Highlands of Scotland will 100% agree. There’s a special connection and pride in calling the Hebrides our home. And this transfers into everything we do! It's also why it's an incredible shame that many young talented people are forced to leave home due to lack of opportunities. Trying to change this has always been a major drive for us to grow.

How? Every one of our candles is handmade from start to finish which is labour intensive. However, this means that we can provide fun jobs in places where they are really needed. Talk about a great silver lining!
